Grab my Close Read Companion HERE
For the longest time I thought Close Reading was having the kids read hard text with a highlighter. It was NOT developmentally appropriate. It WAS a huge waste of all our time-with not a lot of learning going on- AND THEN... I took a wonderful PD from Janey Stoddard. She taught me how to turn picture books into wonderful Close Read texts. It helped me become a much better teacher! In this resource, I have made a guide to help you do the same!

This resource had a booklet that goes right along with your close-read text for the students to record their understanding throughout the days of digging deeper! There are 8 responses (and you could use them in other texts that are not associated with your close read because I made them whole page as well!) The cover is made so that you can easily record a grade for each response.

It is made for fiction with or without pictures!

I hope this resource is helpful for you! I sure wish I would've had something like this!

So... honestly I didn't even know the name for collective nouns when I started teaching. I also didn't know that I needed to explicitly teach collective nouns...OOPS. I like creating materials for teachers that are more than a worksheet!

This has
*a teaching poster/ anchor chart
* a matching game that would be perfect for centers * a worksheet in color and in black & white.

Grab a copy of Verbs and Adverbs HERE
Make teaching Verbs and Adverbs FUN! We all know that kids learn a lot better when they are engaged, and that many kiddos are kinesthetic learners and need to MOVE their bodies! Verbs and Adverbs are a great way to get them moving!

I teach verbs using charades (not pictured). When I teach adverbs we build from our schema of verbs. The stack of cards have verbs and adverbs. The cards have verbs and adverbs!

Get your kids to apply their knowledge of adverbs by writing in their own adverbs to go with the sentences. It even has some bonus vocabulary!
Make the "Verbs and Adverbs" simple by underlining adverbs and circling verbs, or make it challenging by classifying types of adverbs.

You can also use these materials to teach the suffix  -ly!
